The Face Radio Best of 2015

2015 was an exciting year for new music. Though this was our 2nd year doing a best of, this was the first full year for us as a radio. We were so pleased with the amount of new albums we heard, new 45s, and new artists that we came across. When we started The Face in 2014, the initial plan was to only play old Funk and Soul 45s, and some Mod records, and through a short amount of time, I found that I’d be doing a disservice if I wasn’t highlighting the artists and labels that were creating timeless music and releasing important records It was both complicated, but also brought me extraordinary joy compiling this list. This is our best of 2015.

Best New Artist of 2015

Grace Love & The True Loves

Grace Love & The True Loves

Only Seattle can lay claim to the Best New Artist of 2015. Grace Love & The True Loves have laid down a marker with their brand of hot soul and funk. Their self titled 12 track debut album reveals a deep rich sound which is filled with heavy sax and horns, add to this a classic soul guitar and you end up with a crisp sound reminiscent of the Stax era. The vocals that power this album complete what is a very accomplished set of songs.

Check out our interview with Grace and Jimmy from the 13th of September.
